Quick-Quotes Clichés

Severus Snape was breathing heavily when he reached the top of the Astronomy Tower. But it wasn't the admittedly steep flight of steps which made his lungs labour and his heart race. It was anticipation.

A remark overheard at supper in the Great Hall had alerted Snape to the possibilities. The chance to bring that obnoxious brat Potter down a peg or two. Professor McGonagall had been arguing with Hagrid about the beasts he was planning to introduce to his Care of Magical Creatures classes. Snape hadn't paid much attention until he heard the word "Snarglegrind": then, of course, he was all ears. Because Snape knew, even if Hagrid did not, that although Snarglegrinds in captivity were normally tame, docile even, there was a certain obscure potion the merest sniff of which would drive them to wild excesses of sexual frenzy... Snape’s black eyes glittered with malice.

It hadn't taken Snape long to brew the potion - purely for research purposes, naturally. And in the fifth year Potions class that morning he had (accidentally, of course) let a few drops of it fall onto the back of Harry Potter's robes. Not enough to attract Potter's attention. But enough - more than enough! - to attract a Snarglegrind. And now here he was, on top of the Astronomy Tower, where he had a good view of the grounds around Hagrid's cabin but could not be seen himself.

Snape smirked and settled himself comfortably against the ramparts. He looked down at the toy cottage which was Hagrid's cabin. Small figures were making their way across the lawn towards it. Snape had no fear of missing any detail; he had provided himself with a powerful telescope and also intended to make a written record of events to gloat over later... he groped in an inner pocket of his robe and produced parchment and Quick-Quotes Quill. He smoothed the parchment out on top of the rampart wall and balanced the Quill upon the parchment.

His hands shaking slightly, Snape set up his telescope on its stand and focused it on the lawn outside Hagrid's cabin. The Care of Magical Creatures class were sprawled out on the grass, waiting for the lesson to begin. He swung the telescope slowly until he found the messy-haired, green-eyed youth he sought.

A curious sound, half purr half growl, floated faintly across the grass towards the Tower. Snape looked up from his telescope. Hagrid had appeared in front of his cabin; he was leading a strange-looking beast towards his students. It was a long-haired creature, the size of a large dog, shambling on shaggy legs. The assembled Gryffindors and Slytherins clambered to their feet and looked at it warily. Hagrid released the Snarglegrind and seemed to be urging his students to stroke it.

Snape's eye was now glued to the telescope. The Snarglegrind had come within range of Potter, it raised its whiskery head, it was sniffing the air...

The Quill began to write rapidly:

The slavering beast pounces on the Boy-Who-Lived and throws him to the ground, ripping away his robes to reveal the twin globes of his pert buttocks...

Snape alternated glances at the parchment with avidly staring through his telescope. Down on the lawn Hagrid was trying unsuccessfully to drag the Snarglegrind away from Harry.
